The Agusta A109, now AgustaWestland AW109, turns fifty years since its first flight: 04th of August 1971.
It’s an important milestone for this lightweight, twin-engine, eight-seat multi-purpose helicopter built by the Italian manufacturer Leonardo S.p.A. (formerly AgustaWestland, merged into the new Finmeccanica since 2016). It was the first all-Italian helicopter to be mass-produced.
Around one thousands and six hundred helicopters produced in various variants since 1976, we report the most famous: A109A, A109E Power, AW109E Power Élite, A109 LUH – Light Utility Helicopter, A109S Grand, AW109SP Grand New, and the most recent AW109 Trekker.
